Careers in Science

Most science students tend to think of career opportunities as being competative and restricted largely to teaching or research.

There are in fact a diverse range of other options; but students should also be careful about their choice of studies if they are to optimize their career opportunities.

Examples

  • Science graduates in medicine or human biology don't necessarilly all become medical doctors or research workers. Some may become sales persons -selling medical or laboratory supplies. Some may work as paramedics, or even in gyms or health clubs.
  • Science graduates in botany may find work as park rangers, landcare mananagers or in a host of other situations where their botanical knowledge can be applied.

You should think of your education as a starting point toward a career. It provides a foundation that can lead to opportunities -once you are given an opportunity, your knowledge and skills may well continue to develop at a tangent to the direction you had first started heading in.
