Tactile therapy for horses encompasses various types of massage for different treatments and desired outcomes. These include relaxation, sports and therapeutic massage. Tactile Therapy is beneficial for horses that are recovering from injury or suffering reduced performance, it is also helpful as part of the warm up programme for competition horses and is used as part of the warm down programme. Below are some of the benefits of each type of massage.
Relaxation massage
This type of massage can be used to help manage horse behaviour, by

- reducing environment-related stress

- stimulates or relaxes the nervous system
Sports Massage

- injury prevention – stretches connective tissue

- prevents adhesions and fibrous bands forming in muscles, tendons and ligaments
Therapeutic Massage
- Focuses on muscular issues related to conditions such as arthritis and previous injuries.
- Reduces congestion within blood and lymph vessels
- Increases fluid excretion
- Encourages tissue repair
- Increases intestinal movement
- Stimulates glands
