Content:
Study three Core Modules, and complete a 200 hour Workplace Project.

CORE MODULES
There are three core modules.

Turf Care BHT104
An 11 lesson module, Turf Care looks at the use of turf in both commercial and private applications.  Students will learn about the different types of turf available, and how and when particular types should be selected.  The module contains lessons on soils – types of soils, their structure, how to improve them, and so on – irrigation, pests and diseases, and maintenance of turf.  The module concludes with a lesson looking at establishing ornamental turf, with students learning about site assessments, plans, and budgeting.

Turf Repair And Renovation BHT303
This is a 10 lesson module looking at the repair and renovation of turf in different applications, such as home gardens, sports facilities, public parks, and so on.  Students will learn about the deterioration of turf, why and how it deteriorates.  This will help develop their understanding in determining how turf may be repaired or renovated, which is dealt with by the subsequent lessons focusing on particular aspects – turf cultivation, how to improve the health of turf, techniques for replacement or renovation of turf, combating weeds, and maintaining soil and turf quality.

Sports Turf Management BHT202
Sports Turf Management is a 10 lesson module whereby students will gain specialised knowledge in the selection, care, maintenance, and protection of sports turfs.  The course assumes that the student will already have some knowledge through experience or prior studies, and will take and hone that knowledge into this highly specialised area.

WORKPLACE PROJECT
To complete this qualification, you are also required to complete a workplace project lasting 200 hours.  There are 4 options available to you to satisfy this requirement.  The options will be different dependent upon whether or not you currently work within the industry. The project can be work experience, voluntary experience, a project you carry out, other training you have already undertaken and there are other options. Don’t worry if you are not sure how to proceed at this stage, as your tutor will be there to discuss how to proceed and help you every step of the way.
