Why Study Social Sciences?
Social sciences are subjects that look at human relationships, society, the structures in our societies. Today's world is in many ways a contradiction:
- People are more connected in some ways than ever before (e.g. via social media on the internet).
- Personal connections are disrupted more than they have ever been (e.g. divorce, economic migration)
We live in a different society to that experienced by previous generations, where individual and group relationships are unstable in ways that used to be stable. This course helps you to begin understanding the social dynamics and the impacts on individuals brought about by change.
By studying social sciences, we can learn more about human behaviour and the society around us.
Who Is This Course Suitable For?
This course is suitable for anyone who is interested in understanding more about social behaviour, why people behave the way that they do in social situations and independently. The dynamic nature of today's world offers opportunities like we have never seen before, but at the same time, it is potentially more disruptive to the individual's wellbeing, than ever before.
Learning about social sciences creates a foundation for working with people anywhere, helping individuals or groups, in welfare services, counselling, or any other situation involving managing or helping people.
