Understanding Animal Behaviour

Do you ever wonder why an animal acts, or behaves, in a certain way?  Are you fascinated about the evolution of animals and the way wild animals migrate, or alter coat colour to adapt to their environment.  Then the study of animal behaviour may be the right career path for you.

What is the Study of Animal Behaviour

The study of animal behaviour looks not only at the physical traits but also at the genetics, and the evolutionary process of animals.  It looks at the environmental influences and how evolutionary changes to behaviour are made.  It takes into account internal and external influences on behaviour, and also how the animal learns and adapts to its environments.

Why Study Animal Behaviour?

The scientific study of animal behaviour over the years has shown us that animals are sentient beings, and when restricted to unnatural conditions or placed in stressful conditions can begin to show abnormal behaviours.  It is important to continue this process to promote better lives for captive, or farmed, animals.  It is significant to understand the animals natural behaviour, in order to allow the animal to exhibit natural behaviours within a captive environment.

In order to create species conservation and population strategies, it is vital to understand the behaviours of that wild animal.  Certain birds, for example, have specific migratory times and routes, and these must be interrelated into these plans.

With our changing planet, and the uncertainties of melting ice caps and warming seas, it is now imperative to understand animal behaviour and how they will adapt to their changing environment.  To fully help the species, we need to fully understand the species.

How to go about the Study of Animal Behaviour?

Would you like to have an understanding of animal behaviour?  Would you like to have more knowledge on the fascinating subject of ethology?  Perhaps you are working with animals and would like a course to assist your job, or perhaps you are looking for a complete change of occupation for your dream career.

At ACS Distance Education, we offer the fantastic opportunity to study through distance learning.  You can study your dream course in your own time, and at your own pace.

If you are unsure whether you can fit your studies in, then we offer an excellent 100 hour course in Animal Behaviour.  This is a great introduction to the subject, whilst not being a huge commitment to long durations of study.  Get in touch with us and we can advise you on the next step.
