What is the Botanical Science?
Botanical science involves a systematic study of the structure and behaviour of plants. It seeks to develop a greater understanding of what makes plants function. The practical application of knowing plants better is that we can then manage them better, to produce crops, create and maintain landscapes or any other practical purpose. Horticultural and farming practices can be improved, and environments can be managed so much better when a deeper understanding of science can be applied.
How Difficult is it to Study Botanical Science?
Science comes easier to some people than others; but for anyone with a passion for plants and the motivation to learn, this course should not be difficult. It may take longer to work through for some; but being self paced, and with unlimited support available from our plant science experts; there is no reason for any student to not succeed as long as they engage with their tutor and persist in their studies.
What are the Employment Possibilities for Graduates from this Course?
This might be considered as a "technician" level course, that provides a level of knowledge required for more technical work in horticulture, farming or environmental management. This could include work in a wide range of industry sectors including: plant conservation, plant breeding, product development, research, education, broadcast or publishing media, urban greening, precision farming or horticultural management, and other new technological applications.
Science & technology is driving change in all areas of applied plant sciences; and this course can be a very solid stepping tone to being a part of that change.
Note: Some modules may be swapped for other options, if appropriate and after chatting with our academic team (e.g. Horticulture II, Deciduous Trees, Carnivorous Plants).
What is an Idustry Project?
To complete this qualification, you are also required to complete a workplace project lasting 100 hours.
There are different options available to you to satisfy this requirement. The options may be different dependent upon whether or not you currently work within the industry. The project can be work experience, voluntary experience, a project you carry out, other training you have already undertaken and there are other options. Don’t worry if you are not sure how to proceed at this stage, as your tutor will be there to discuss how to proceed and help you every step of the way.
