Frequently Asked Questions

What types of turf will I learn about?

The course covers all types of turf including lawns in home gardens and parks, and sports turf surfaces such as golf greens, bowling greens, football and cricket grounds, and other playing fields.

How practical is the Course?

It is a mix of working on the computer and off computer work. You learn by engaging with both online information and real world experiences in a wide varirty of ways; directed by a study guide. The course is designed to build your practical skills through work both online and in the field.

Will the course help advance my career opportunities?

Yes. There are skills shortages in the turf industry, particularly at a mid level for technicians and a higher level for managers. Many of the courses that were once offered are either closed down or not training the numbers of turf professionals they once did; and this is leading to increasing difficulty in replacing technicians and managers as older professionals retire and need to be replaced. The number of sporting clubs are increasing in the UK each year; but the number of highly trained turf professionals is decreasing.

Is the Course Flexible?

Yes. You can study where and when suits you and at your own speed. Study full time and fast if you wish; or spread your study over as many years as you wish.
Given the scarcity of trained professionals, it is not uncommon for students to find employment while studying and reduce the weekly commitment to study. This course can easily accommodate such changes. We do not enforce any firm completion date, in the way some colleges do.
